Yule Ball ruled pretty hard.
Watching everyone get white-girl wasted on the dancefloor w/ MollyAndTheGirls was quite the sight. Didn’t know 90% of the songs they decided to play, but that’s the kids for you these days. Stuck it to the provided strawberry Crush like it was my job, and had a great time.
I’m going to have a hard time trusting anyone dressed in zebra-themed attire from now on.
Darren was pretty funny too. He ended up buying us all Cookout afterwards, which was perfection.
Oh, and Haley still has my bow-tie.

This Saturday, March 24th, marks the Second Annual River City Invitational, hosted by none other than the University of Richmond Acromantulas! Arguably one of the most exciting dates on the the Virginia Quidditch League’s calendar for 2012, this day of merriment, frivolity and intense Quidditch matches promises to be a showdown of epic proportions.
Attending teams include Univesity of Richmond, Virginia Tech, James Madison University, Virginia Commonwealth University, William and Mary, Christopher Newport, and University of Virginia. That’s right! ALMOST THE ENTIRE VQL IN ONE TOURNAMENT! CAN I GET A HALLELUJAH?!

At last season’s River City Invitational Tournament, I had the chance to stop Steve ‘Mr. 3000’ Minnich from scoring on a whirlwind drive in the championship game. When his quick agility left me scrambling in the mud, I felt like I let my team down. For the very first time since beginning this magical sport, I was defeated. What came off as a simple 10 points to UR (eventually leading to their victory) left me with an entire summer of late-night runs and earnest reflection.
Two weekends ago, I had the opportunity to face Steve once again (now playing for the mercenary team QC Carolinas). Months of sprinting, countless workouts and intense focus had left me determined. Win or lose, he would not pass me. It wasn’t an option. The opportunity of redemption was at hand, even if it was for no one but myself.
Not only was I able to take Steve down once, but twice. We went on to win that game, and now both of our teams are proudly headed to compete in WCVI this April.
This photograph captures the very moment in which I was able to overcome one of my biggest pitfalls, and stand strong for my team once again. From the intensity of the hit to the roar of my team cheering in the background, this is a moment in time I’ll truly never forget.

We’ll be representing VCU at the International Quidditch Association’s Quidditch World Cup VI in Kissimmee, FL this spring as one of the top ranked teams in the world.
